Bell Shelter

The Salvation Army Bell Shelter is located in Bell, CA just east of the City of Los Angeles.  The shelter houses about 400 residents for up to two years each.  The shelter provides food, beds, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and job training programs.  Adjacent to the shelter is about 30,000 sqft of unused land with good sun exposure, and two large, vacant warehouses.

GrowGood is working with the Salvation Army to develop an agriculture program for the Bell Shelter that will include a garden for food production, an educational component for job training, and a place for residents to relax and socialize outside of the shelter building. In addition, the organization is working with the staff to shape integrated programs around the garden, including a cooking component and a farm-to-market warehousing concept. Click here for directions to the Bell Shelter garden.
